There are many elaborate ways to grow an email list, but sometimes simple additions to your website can have the biggest effect. This super-easy marketing tactic is one of those things, and if you haven't added an exit or timed pop-up to your website yet, it could be a great way to generate more emails for your list.

What you don't want to do is bombard your visitors with pop-ups, so you're going to want to check what pop-ups if any you already have on your site. Nobody wants to be hit in the face with 3 or 4 pop-ups as soon as they've entered a website. That's a surefire way to put people off.

But exit and timed pop-ups can serve a purpose. Exit pop-ups can appear when a visitor exits a page and timed pop-ups will appear after a visitor has spent a certain amount of time on your site. If they've already spent a considerable amount of time on your site, then chances are they're interested in what you have to say!

So this is the perfect opportunity to prompt them to engage with your content even more by signing up to your mailing list and receiving all the perks that you offer to mailing list subscribers. 

There are many benefits to these types of pop-ups, for example, a recent Wordstream study showed that exit pop-ups reduced a website's bounce rate by 60% and increased time on that page by a whopping 50%. 

This is also a great tactic to use if you find your website is getting a lot of views and visitors but not many email sign-ups. You might find that your visitors need that extra push to hand over their information to you and sign up to your mailing list!
